(webcast) 3A-29 Round 1- Greensburg 3, Lawrenceburg 0

Lawrenceburg- The undefeated Greensburg Lady Pirates picked up their 20th victory in as many matches this season taking the Lady Tigers of Lawrenceburg in three sets: 25-16, 25-14, 25-16.

Coach Staci Knigga’s Tigers didn’t quite have their A-game but they didn’t play poorly either. Coach June Rigney’s Pirates just played better in Thursday’s 3A Sectional 29 first-round pairing.

A year ago, Greensburg won the EIAC in undefeated fashion but was upended by Lawrenceburg in the sectional the Tigers eventually won.  The Pirates, again, swept the EIAC in 2020 but lightning did not strike in the postseason for LHS.  Greensburg was simply too strong.

In the opening game, the set was tied five times up through 7-7.  At that point, GCHS won seven of the next eight points and went on to post a 25-16 victory.

Lawrenceburg held an early 3-0 advantage in game two.  After a few lead swaps and the set’s final tie at 9-9, Greensburg gained a little separation with a 5-0 run and then closed big on a 7-1 spurt to win 25-14.

The Pirates enjoyed a 6-1 start to the third set.  From there, the Tigers drew no closer than four points.  Greensburg finished the straight-sets victory with a 25-16 final in the third frame, marking the third win over Lawrenceburg this season.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Match were Greensburg’s Anna West and Ella Chapman.  Unofficially, West had 16 kills, 6 total blocks and a pair of aces while Chapman put away 10 kills and 7 total blocks.

Story continues.
