(webcast) East Central 3, Lawrenceburg 2

Lawrenceburg- Competitive volleyball is usually the rule when East Central and Lawrenceburg play but, vary rarely, does a match go four sets.  The Thursday, September 3 installment of the series did just that and EC won the non-conference match 3-2.  Final scores were 25-20, 14-25, 25-22, 27-25 and 15-10.

After six ties and two lead changes through game one’s first 15 points, East Central went on a 4-0 run to go up 17-14 and held off Lawrenceburg the rest of the way to win 25-21.

The Tigers were trailing 8-6 in set two before scoring six consecutive points and eight of the next nine to move in front 16-7.  LHS went on to easily take the game, 25-14.

Coach Staci Knigga’s Tigers led for much of the first half of game three before coach Cassie Laker’s Trojans slipped back in front, 15-14.  The two clubs then traded leads two more times and tied five times down the stretch with EC prevailing 25-22.

While the fourth set was very tight, East Central led through most of it.  But down 20-18, Lawrenceburg took its first lead with four straight points and eventually, completed the comeback in extra play, 27-25.

In the fifth set following a 7-7 tie, East Central fought and scrapped its way to a 15-10 victory and claimed the non-conference match 3-2.  The EIAC pairing will be played September 22 in St. Leon.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Match were East Central’s Hope Fox and Jessie Stenger.  The two players combined for 32 kills.  Fox also had 3 aces, 2 blocks, 17 digs and 1 assist.  Stenger added 6 blocks and 3 digs.
