(webcast) Franklin County 3, Rushville 0

Brookville- Franklin County defeated Rushville, 3-0, Wednesday, September 2 in Brookville.  The final scores of the EIAC match were 25-16, 26-15 and 25-20

This match was part of our Bruns-Gutzwiller Fall Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

It was a well-played match by coach Jill Mergenthal’s Lady Wildcats and a tough night for coach Nan Scanlan’s Lady Lions.  For Rushville, this match followed just one day after RCHS sophomore student Kameron Cox was tragically killed in a single vehicle accident.

With the exception of the Lions’ 2-0 start in game one, Franklin County never trailed the rest of the night.

The Cats had a huge 10-0 run to break open a close first set which they won 25-16.  In game two, FC got off to a fast 10-2 start en route to a 25-15 victory.

In the third game following a 4-4 tie, the host Wildcats scored nine of the next 11 points to go up 13-6.  The Lions fought back to tie the game at 14 and 15-all.  But Franklin County never gave up its advantage and took the third set 25-20 to sweep the match in three.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Match was Kassidy Schell.  The Franklin County sophomore tallied 6 kills, 1 block, 9 assists, 5 aces and 16 gigs, a very nice all-around performance.

“We had a slight lineup change and really played very well together,” said Franklin County coach Jill Mergenthal.  “It was great to see the Lady Cats working on different hits at the net. What an all-around great night in the court. Every one of the Lady Cats had an impact on this game!”

“it was not what I had hoped for but what was to be expected considering our last couple of days,” stated Rushville coach Nan Scanlan.  “Our school and our community are hurting due to the tragic loss of a student.  The kids are just trying to figure out their emotions and are mentally exhausted.  Right now, we are just taking one day at a time and will get through this together as a team, as a school, and as a community.”
