East Central at Bloomington South Invite

Edited recap from East Central coach Cassie Laker: EC traveled to Bloomington South for a variation of their annual invitational. With a couple of teams dropping out, we collectively decided to just play three matches and call it a day rather than playing a full-blown tournament. This allowed them to avoid teams and fans crossing over and made it easier for the staff to sanitize.

We started off slow against Covenant Christian and found ourselves in a pretty big hole. When we finally started playing, it was a little too late, but we took the momentum into game two. Set three was up and down and could have went in either team’s favor, but we were able to close out the match with the scores of 21-25, 25-20, 18-16. EC top stat leaders: aces- Addy Cleary 2 (15/15 serving); kills- Hope Fox (25/28 attacks); assists- Cleary 14 (47 sets); serve receive- Fox 19/20; total blocks- Fox 3; digs- Laney Baker 21.

The second match we played Trinity Lutheran, a team who lost very few players from their state runner-up team from last year. They were very disciplined and relied heavily on their experience. We lost a quick match 13-25, 15-25. EC top stat leaders: kills- Fox 5 (15/17 attacks); assists- Cleary 9 (30 sets); serve receive- Macey Lewis 11/14; total blocks- Fox, Lewis, Jessie Stenger 2 each; digs- Baker 11.

The final match was a flip of the first match. We started off decent against Seymour and was able to steal the lead midway through the game to come out on top, but we completely fell apart in set two. Nothing was going our way. We found ourselves fighting for every point in set three. We pulled out the win 25-22, 11-25, 15-12. EC top stat leaders: aces- Allison Huismann 2 (12/12 serving); kills- Fox, Stenger 6 each; assists- Huismann 7 (23 sets); serve receive- Fox 16/21; total blocks- Lewis, Stenger 2 each; digs- Baker 10.
