3A Sectional 29 Round 1- Lawrenceburg 3, South Dearborn 0

Batesville- For a second time this volleyball season, Lawrenceburg was a 3-0 winner over South Dearborn.  The first meeting was an EIAC conference match on September 10 in Aurora.  The second was during Thursday’s first round of 3A Sectional 29 in Batesville where the Tigers won 25-15, 25-12 and 25-20.

This match was part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Sports Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in 720p HD by clicking here.

While Lawrenceburg was considered a significant favorite over South Dearborn in the postseason rematch, coach Denise Rose’s Knights came in fired up and made some outstanding plays during the first half of set one.  But coach Staci Knigga’s Tigers broke free from a 14-14 tie and won by a deceptively large 10-point spread of 25-15.

After taking 11 of the final 12 points from set one, LHS built an 8-3 lead in game two.  Up 12-9, the Tigers went on another major role claiming 13 of the final 16 points to post a 25-12 W.

South Dearborn regrouped and put up quite a fight in game three.  Down 17-10, the Knights didn’t let the Tigers run away this time and battled back to within 23-20.  But Lawrenceburg was able to close the door, 25-20, and end the match in minimum sets.

South Dearborn finishes the year at 10-14 which is a nice improvement for first-year coach Rose and her club who had only six total wins over the previous two years.

Lawrenceburg lifts its record to 23-6 and has earned a big date with EIAC champion Greensburg in Saturday’s semifinals around 12:30 pm. Connersville and Batesville play first at 11 am.

We hope to see you in person at Batesville, but if you can’t be there, SEI Local Sports will have live coverage of both matches beginning at 10:35 am.  We’ll also have the championship starting at 6:35 pm.
