East Central coach Cassie Laker: EC made the long haul to Bloomington North Tuesday to take on the host school. Our season came to a heartbreaking end, losing to the Cougars in four.

Like they have all season, our girls fought and fought hard. It took us a little bit to find our groove, but we did and I am very proud of them. They never settled. They pushed themselves every day and, as a whole, have probably grown and improved more than any team I’ve coached from day one to the final day. They were well on track to reach their full potential at the best time when adversity struck and we had to make a change. With Disbro out, freshman Laney Baker stepped up and filled the libero position for us. Again, they didn’t let that stop them. Not once did they use it as an excuse. It didn’t make the loss any easier to accept because they still believed it could be done.

After a couple days to reflect, the loss still hurts, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt, this team exceeded any expectations set for them at the start of the season. They were fun to watch and even more fun to coach. I am honored to have been on this journey with them! It was a great season (22-10 and 6-1 in the EIAC).

We thank coach Laker for the match information.
