Jac-Cen-Del coach Cat Schmeltz: We changed the practice strategy up this past week and the kids really responded.  It was the first time all season I watched them stay in a game the entire match.  Our general attitudes were positive and it showed in our ability to come back even after dropping two sets and making it a 5-set match.

Our kids are finally starting to believe they can play with so many of the teams we have faced this year.  While our overall record doesn’t directly reflect the improvement we have made from last season, when we break it down by set, we have won almost three times as many sets as the previous season.   We are learning to make in game adjustments for specific hitters and the kids are able to make changes within the game even without me directing them to do so.  This is a direct reflection of the increase in their volleyball IQ.

We had two freshmen, Olivia Strunk and Lexus Jones, come in and fill a spot for an injury and did a spectacular job.    Desiree Sparks, our sophomore middle, had her best game of the season. Regan Carroll, a senior, continued to be a force at the net.  Shai Schmeltz has been a solid in our back row as libero.  Aundrea Cullen is an all-around player in the back row and playing outside. She continued with a solid game against South Ripley.  Our setters, sophomore Katelyn Wagner and junior Macey Moorman, did a great job adjusting to their middle hitters and picking up multiple digs to help us complete.  Emma Newhart did a phenomenal job finding holes and picking up multiple short balls covering the middle of the floor and tipped balls.  Senior Kaylee Benham picked had a tremendous passing game on serve receive.  Shaylee Volz did a great job in the front row and picking up tips as well.  McKenzy Gray is always a contributor to our team but was unfortunately out with an injury.
