East Central coach Cassie Laker: At first, I wasn’t sure this was going to go in our favor. We found ourselves in a hole, 9-1, to start the match. But once again, these girls do not know when to quit. They chipped their way back until they eventually took the lead and the set. We controlled set two with stronger serving which led to a more controlled offense. In set three, it was pretty much point for point for the first half, and then we got stuck in a rotation we couldn’t fight our way out of fast enough. Set four was just a solid set by both teams.

It took the entire team. Someone stepped up every time we needed a big push. We had strong performances by so many of the girls. It truly was a big-time team effort.  I couldn’t be happier with that as we round out our season.

For two teams who have never played or knew anything about each other, the atmosphere matched a conference rivalry. Both JV teams were competing with each other in the stands to be the loudest for their team and the parents and fans were equally as supportive. It was a fun match that has the potential to be a great long-term addition to our schedule.  Our varsity is now 17-7.

East Central assistant coach Josie Andres: The Lady Trojans lost to Springboro, Ohio in two emotionless sets. We did not show up in the communication aspect. We played point by point and you will never win playing at that pace. We did not push for points nor did we earn them at the net. Defense was better in some areas. Laney Baker covered the majority of the court raking in a total of 21 digs.

So far this season we have battled with performing against well-disciplined programs. The girls start to shut down, diminish communication and become individuals. It has been a point of emphasis this entire season.  Effort, emotion and heart are what is going to bring this group success.  We will keep working until it consistently shows.

We thank coaches Laker and Andres for the match reports.
