East Central coach Cassie Laker: It wasn’t the most entertaining game on our side of the court. We served tough but lacked enthusiasm most of the match. It wasn’t until senior Molly Gregg broke the school record for career assists that everyone started playing with a purpose.

On the scoreboard, it looks like we played extremely well. But on tape, it’s just not as fun to watch. We have a long way to go in a short amount of time. But if any team is capable of doing it, it will be this team. They’ve come leaps and bounds so far and I have no doubt that they will find a way to push through.

As mentioned, senior Molly Gregg broke a 13-year school record previously held by Karyn Powell. Molly recorded 19 assists against Madison giving her 1,804. The previous record was 1,801.  We look forward to her breaking through the 2,000 assist mark before she closes out her career at EC.

Truly, no one works harder than her, and it’s been that way for four years. I could probably count on one hand how many volleyball events she’s missed in four years, in season and out of season. She’s committed, dedicated and loves the game she had no choice but to grow up around with six older sisters who all played volleyball as well. If anyone deserves this honor, it’s her.

The EC varsity is now 10-4.

Story continues.

East Central assistant coach Josie Andres:  Our girls learned the effort they put in is the result they get in return. Even though it was a victory, the girls were pushed by a very determined Madison team. The girls have finally begun to realize wins are not going to be handed to them. A lot of their successes come from energy, communication and crucial teamwork. When those areas lack, then their play lacks. Growth comes from experience and, with every match, there are new lessons the girls take away from and that’s what it’s all about. The EC JV is now 9-1.

EC asst. coach Andres:  The EC freshmen have yet to start off a match with energy and intensity.  With all levels in our program, it is vital we focus on our side of the net and bettering ourselves everyday with the opportunities we are given. Madison continued to pursue for points with positivity and effort, an attitude many athletes could learn from. I was proud our freshmen picked up the energy and finished the match 2-0.  They are now 5-0.

We thank coaches Laker and Andres for the match info.
