East Central coach Cassie Laker: The start of set one wasn’t pretty, but I am extremely proud of this group. They showed some maturity and poise being down big from the start.  Instead of quitting, they worked together as a team and dug their way back one point at a time. We didn’t lead in the first set until 22-21.

The girls worked hard and then took control in set two. We played with more energy which led to consistent execution on our side of the court. In set three, it was much more evenly matched for both teams. We went back and forth at the start until we put a couple small runs together to secure the win.

This group doesn’t know when to quit and that can be dangerous. Our opponents start to get comfortable with a lead late in the game and then we start to take over. While I’d prefer us to just start strong and hit the gas with the first serve, I’m happy they stayed in and had the confidence to come back in win that set.  The varsity is now 9-4.
