Jac-Cen-Del coach Cat Schmeltz: We have a wonderful group of kids who have put in an incredible amount of time in the off season to get better.  We continue to show huge amounts of potential during matches we have played.  However, we also tend to revert back to some old habits. This has greatly hurt us at points in the season.  I do see the kids, in general, know how to correct their mistakes.  They are learning to talk through their issues and develop solutions while the match goes on at times.  We must continue to work together and trust our teammates.

The first and second sets had a lot of bright moments before we eventually lost those sets.  In the third set, we lost our focus and became unnerved. We forgot all the things we have worked so hard on.  Immediately after the game though, we had kids taking ownership in what they personally needed to do differently so the team could get better.   It is only a matter of time before everything clicks in place for our team.

Jac-Cen-Del assistant coach Paige Simon: We are halfway through the season and there are many girls who have shown tremendous improvements.

We have one main setter who plays all around and that is Brynn Negangard. She works hard to get to her zone and get set the ball for her players. Her job can be exhausting, no doubt, but her determination to get her feet planted and arms and elbows at the right height and angle have improved as the season moves along. Just like every player on the team, she too can have an off game and that is when the other players step-up their game and get the job done.

This could have been a win, but everyone had silly little mistakes. Each game opens up a new schedule of skills to work on and get better at for the next team; however, no two teams play the same. So that presents its own challenges. Our destiny is to learn and get better with each game we play.

I also want to point out we have had to shuffle our team around for a few games. We pulled the four sophomores down who play varsity only to help us out when we were in a pickle. They did a great job of being a leader on the court when it was needed. Thanks sophomores!

We thank coaches Schmeltz and Simon for the match info.
