Warren Central Track Regional Recap; locals qualify for state in 8 events

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- What an incredibly fun night for the Batesville Bulldog Track and Field team as they competed in the Boys Regional meet at Warren Central High School. Batesville has 3 individuals advancing onto State competition next Friday, was able to crown an individual Regional Champion and a record from 2010 was broken!

The first running event of the night, the 4 x 800m relay, brought 4 personal best split times by all the relay team members, which was also a team personal best by over 11 seconds and broke the school record, coming through the finish line at 8:12.47! Members are: Benjamin Moster, Daren Smith, Ean Loichinger and JJ Kuisel. Despite this performance, competition was fierce and this gave them a 5th place finish overall. Gabe Gunter was the next individual to perform at a personal best level, where he leaped over the high jump bar at 6’5″ (which is also the automatic qualifying height for state) giving him a 2nd place finish and advancing him to state. Then Benjamin Moster ran a personal best in the 1600 with a time of 4:30.37. Although he placed 4th this will also advance him to state. Then shortly after that, JJ Kuisel stepped to the line without a doubt in his mind and won the 400m dash (49.51), earning the Individual Regional Champion Title and advancing to the state meet. Congratulations boys!

Also scoring and performing well for the dogs were:
Gabe Gunter in the pole vault, placing 5th with a PR vault of 12’6″.
Deacon Hamilton in the 110m hurdles, placing 6th with a PR time.(16.26)
Eli Pierson placed 8th in the 200m dash
The 4x100m relay, running a personal best time (44.62) and placing 8th…Willy Sherwood, Vonley Hund, Kurt Siefert and Eli Pierson

Overall the Bulldogs placed 6th in the 24+ team Regionals getting beat by the Regional Champs-Center Grove (142 points), Warren Central (96 points), Columbus North (63 points), Franklin Central (44 points), East Central (37 points) and the Bulldogs scoring 35 points.

Congratulations everyone! Gabe, Benjamin and JJ will compete next Friday in the state competition, which will be held at Ben Davis High School this year! Good Luck boys!

Rushville’s Jim Marlatt-  Qualifying members of the Rushville boys track and field team traveled to Warren Central on Thursday evening to compete in the Regional round of the 2021 IHSAA Track and Field Tournament. The top three finishers in each event qualified for the Indiana State Track and Field Finals to be held at Ben Davis High School on Friday June 4th. In a field that included many of the best athletes in Indiana, the Lions concluded their season, competing very well.

Sophomore Jacob Hampton qualified in the pole vault and nearly set a new season best at opening height but just missed getting over the bar. Junior Carter Tague set a new season best in the long jump with a distance of 19’8.5″ to come in 13th place overall.

Junior Kyle Stanley ran a 4:49.48 in the 1600 to come in 13th place. Tague also competed in the 400m dash and finished 13th with a time of 53.93. Senior Keith Bacon ran a strong 800 to come in 10th place overall with a time of 2:06.92.

The 4×100 team of Harper Miller, Alec Evans, Colton Griffith, and Jake Vance placed 14th overall finishing with a time of 45.50. And the 4×400 team of Bacon, A.Evans, Josiah Hay, and Tague finished in 16th place with a time of 4:00.39.

“Regionals is always loaded with some of the best track and field athletes in Indiana and this year was no exception. It is a unique experience for our guys to be able to compete at this level. It is a memorable event for our guys and I am proud of the way they accept the challenge and do their best.”

Center Grove claimed the team Regional Championship with a score of 142 with Warren Central-96, Columbus North-63, Franklin Central-44, and East Central-37 rounding out the top 5 teams.
