2020 Rushville Girls Track Season Outlook from Hannah Augsburger

Prior to the start of any season, there is always an air of hope and optimism by coaches and players.  Unfortunately, that hope and optimism for the spring sports season was dashed for everyone with its cancellation due to COVID-19.

But we asked coaches to share with us what they were looking forward to: team outlook, individual hopes and expectations or anything else about the season in general.  We’ll be sharing those stories as we receive them and we appreciate those who took the time to send us their thoughts.

Rushville Girls Track Coach Hannah Augsburger- The 2020 Rushville girls track and field season got off to a great start. The girls were eager to get started and put in hard work before the Covid-19 pandemic brought an abrupt end to everyone’s seasons.

Two things stuck out to me as a coach. The girls had a willingness to compete and had the heart to show up and put forth the effort. The girls will not have the opportunity to compete on the field or on the track, but that shouldn’t stop them from understanding the outstanding student-athletes they are.

Our girls team this year featured seven seniors who brought experience, leadership, and talent. Morgan Adkins, Macenzie Cochran, Maddie Turner, Mackenzie Pratt, Josie Corum, Corrin Reboulet, Isabella Runnabohm have become the force which brought this team together. They are all excellent representatives of Rushville Track and Field, Rushville Consolidated High School, and the Rush County community. Thank you seniors!

In the field events, the Lady Lions squad was putting in work for the season by attending 6 am workouts two days a week working on agility and stamina. Relay teams were working on bonds to understand how each girl worked well together.  Distance runners worked on mental toughness to work through the pain, sweat, and tears. The girls had goals to achieve, goals to beat, and events to win this season.

There is no doubt, as a coach, the girls feel a sense of disappointment. Our girls are young and eager to get out there next season with the same mentality as when we started the 2020 season. Heart and a willingness to compete are two words RCHS Girls Track and Field brought this year.
