Rushville and Connersville compete at Patriot Indoor Invite

Rushville and Connersville at the Patriot Indoor Invitational.

Unedited report from Rushville coach Jim Marlatt:

The Rushville boys and girls track teams traveled to Anderson University on Saturday to compete in the Patriot Invitational Indoor Meet hosted by Jay County High School. The Rushville athletes competed against several of the state’s premier track and field programs in the 20 team field and gained valuable experience competing in a big meet atmosphere.

For the Lady Lions, Charity Griffith finished 2nd overall in the high jump clearing an impressive 5’5″. Isabella Runnebohm finished in 6th place in the shot put with a throw of 32′.25″. Senior Alejandra Romero finished 26th in the long jump with a distance of 12’1″. In the running events, Natalia Meza took 8th overall in the 3200 with a time of 13:50. Maddi Turner and Lily Krodel finished 6th and 11th in the 60m hurdles with times of 10.47 and 10.92. Heather Stanley and Summer Stanley finished 33rd and 34th in the 60m dash with times of 9.61 and 9.90 respectively.
The 4×200 team of Turner, Krodel, Shannon Dougherty, and Griffith finished 6th overall with an excellent time of 1:55 (2 seconds faster than the RCHS outdoor record). The 4×400 team of Dougherty, Josie Wagner, Turner, and Griffith finished in 8th place with a time of 4:31. And the Distance Medley Relay team of Kaitlyn Shook, Summer Stanley, Josie Corum, and Natalia Meza finished in 17th place with a time of 16:44.
“The girls had a very good day today. Nearly everyone improved from the meet last week and there were several really tremendous performances today. We should be taking quite a few girls down to IU for the Hoosier State Relays, which is a terrific accomplishment. The girls team is in a good place to start the season.”
For the Lions, Senior Keith Hallgarth took 1st place in the pole vault clearing a career best height of 12’9″. John King finished in 8th place clearing 9’0″. Ethan Zeisloft and Nash Paddock finished 28th and 37th in the shot put with distances of 36′.5″ and 29’2.25″. In the running events, Andrew Miller finished in 2nd place in the 3200 with a time of 10:26. Freshman Kyle Stanley finished in 15th place with a time of 11:09. Hallgarth took 11th overall in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.50. Trey Cain and Tyreke Carr finished 23rd and 32nd in the 60m dash with times of 7.75 and 7.90 respectively.
The 4×800 team of Cole Dixon, Isaac Lawrence, Keith Bacon, and Ethan Chastain was strong finishing in 7th place with a time of 9:06. The 4×200 team of Carr, Carter Payne, Casey Smith, and Adam Bousman took 18th place with a time of 1:45. The 4×400 team of King, Bacon, Bousman, and Sam Sterrett finished 18th with a time of 4:07. And the Distance Medley Relay team of Dixon, Lawrence, Chastain, and Miller finished 6th overall with a time of 11:42.
“The boys did very well today. I think the guys really stepped up to the level of the competition and there was definite improvement from the meet last week. The team overall will continue to evolve as the guys gain experience and find the events that suit them best. Today was a clear step in the right direction.”
The top 24 indoor performances in each event from 1A-3A schools will qualify for the Hoosier State Relays at Indiana University on Saturday March 23. Rushville will have several individuals and relays qualify to compete in the HSR.

Thr Co-Ed track and field teams traveled to Anderso University Saturday to compete in the Patriot Invitational. Placing in the top 10 were several Spartans. Jessica Beckman placed 4th in the shot.Braylind Colossacco was 7th in the High Jump. Adam Arndt was 8th in the 3200 and Erika Smith was 9th in the High Jump. The Spartan move outside to take on Centerville in their next meet on April 4th at Centerville.
