EC’s Weber finishes 7th in 50 Free state finals

There were eight local athletes who competed Friday and Saturday at the IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships.  East Central’s Nick Weber was the most notable as the junior qualified for two individual events and two relays.

Weber finished on the podium in the 50 Free placing 7th with a time of 20.75.  He was also 10th in the 100 Free with a mark of 45.99.

Weber joined Ayden Ketcham, Matthew Badinghaus and Henry Strotman in the 200 Free Relay.  They just missed making Saturday’s B-Final placing 18th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:28:34. The 16th place and final qualifying time was 1:28.14.

The EC 200 Medley Relay team also competed Friday. That included Weber, Francis Strotman, Skyler Cavins and Badinghaus.  Their time of 1:39.06 was good for 24th in the prelims.

Cavins also competed as an individual in the 100 Fly and placed 29th with a finish of 54.03.

And in diving, Connersville’s Quinton Jones placed 25th with a score of 177.80 in the preliminaries.

Carmel won the team championship for the seventh consecutive year.
