Aurora-  South Dearborn used three big scoring innings to defeat Rising Sun 14-5 in Aurora on April 27.

This game was part of our Bruns-Gutzwiller Spring Webcast Schedule and can be seen again on the IHSAA Champions Network by clicking here.

Coach Anna Eggleston’s Lady Knights scored four times in the second and third innings then put the game away with five runs in the sixth.

Scoreless entering in the home second, SD’s Lexi Dittmer broke the scoring ice with a two-run homer to right center.  Kori Cornett scored after singling in front of her.  Alley Lunsford followed with a solo shot to center.  Abby Hensley then reached on an error, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Chayne Conly.  It was 4-0 Knights.

The Aurora ladies doubled their lead to 8-0 with four runs in the third.  Emma Seaver led off with a single then when from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cornett.  Dittmer drove Seaver home on a hit up the middle.  After Kyra Labazzo rached on a fielder’s choice, Lunsford belted her second home run. This one cleared the left center fence and produced three runs.

Coach Ken DeDreu’s Shiners finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when Lindsay Montgomery crushed a solo bomb to left.  However, SD got the run right back in the bottom of the frame when Cornett reached on a two-out double, stole third and crossed the dish on a throwing error. It was 9-1.

Rising Sun made it 9-2 in the fifth.  Nora Powell boarded on an infield error, stole second and scored on an RBI ground out by Cora Poling.

The Shiners made it a little more interesting by adding three runs in the sixth.  Josie Bell doubled and Emma Russell singled.  With one out, Powell got on by error to load the bases and Bell scored.  After a Poling base hit, Montgomery doubled to left plating both Russell and Powell.  That made it 9-5.

But the Knights put up a five spot in the home sixth which essential put the game out of reach.  RBI base hits in the stanza were logged by Mikayla Rudisell, Lunsford, Hensley and Malyia Schnebelt.  Conly also knocked in a run on a sac fly.

The Shiners had two base runners in the visitor’s seventh but they never scored.  South Dearborn won 14-5.

Our Southeast Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were South Dearborn’s Alley Lunsford and Kyra Labazzo.  Lunsford went 3 for 4 with two home runs, five RBI and scored three runs.  Labazzo was the winning pitcher and tossed three scoreless innings with only one hit allowed and had two strikeouts.
