2020 East Central Softball Outlook from Steve Coffman

Prior to the start of any season, there is always an air of hope and optimism by coaches and players.  Unfortunately, that hope and optimism for the spring sports season was dashed for everyone with its cancellation due to COVID-19.

But we asked coaches to share with us what they were looking forward to: team outlook, individual hopes and expectations or anything else about the season in general.  We’ll be sharing those stories as we receive them and we appreciate those who took the time to send us their thoughts.

East Central coach Steve Coffman- The East Central Trojan softball team was very excited about the upcoming season. We were returning eight starters from last season’s successful team.

Our players put together a very impressive off-season. Many played all around the country in different showcases and tournaments. Players, coaches, parents and our community were devastated to learn of the season being cancelled. EC Softball was looking for a third straight EIAC conference title and advancing in the state tournament.

With just one practice under our belt, it is difficult to say which players would have filled in spots played by graduated players, but the following players were expected to be a huge part of our success this year: seniors Samantha Engel, Karlie Hahn and Dianna Sprague; juniors Kiley Anthon, Carson Bennett, Amanda Duncan, Emma Ertel, Lindsay Henson, Jess Kincer, Meg Kincer and Natalie Schnell; sophomores Anna Coffman, Jordyn Maurer and Olivia Stenger and freshman Kerigan Schuck.

Our JV team, which in the past two years has provided us with a player or two who rises up to play varsity by the end of the year, includes: Hayley Lewis, Kayden Banks, Alyssa Tully, Allison Davis, Madison Kersey, Breann Kocher, Hannah Laymon, Olivia Lehman, Kaylee Louden, Savannah Marcum, Jazmyn Muckley, Brynn Wilhelm and Allison Wolber.

Currently, our program is competing in a weekly challenge consisting of softball specific drills, agility drills and citizenship tasks. We’ve completed week one andhad many players from seniors all the way down to second grade participating. This community loves their softball and this challenge confirms that!
