Rising Sun 11, Hauser 1; 1A-60 Championship

Rising Sun- For the last several years, Rising Sun has hosted the class 1A softball sectional 60.  For the past 3, they have had to watch the trophy leave town as Hauser has won it each year they have been in the sectional, part of 5 straight crowns for the Lady Jets.  On Thursday night, the Lady Shiners made sure the trophy was staying home as they defeated Hauser 11-1 to win their first sectional since 2015 and the first under head coach Bryce Kendrick.

This game was seen live as part of our Spring Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

The game was delayed for 54 minutes at the start as thunderstorms in the area prohibited the teams from warming up.  The game was scoreless until the top of the 3rd inning.  Even though they were the host school, the Shiners were the visitors in the championship game.  With one out, Lindsay Montgomery doubled.  Sydney Bostic followed with a single to score Montgomery and took 2nd on the throw to the plate.  She would score one out later on a single by Cora Polling, who took 2nd on the throw home.  This allowed Polling to score when Abby Wallace followed with her 2nd single of the game to make it 3-0 Shiners.

It looked like those runs were going to enough for Shiner starter Sydney Pitts.  Coming off back to back 10-0 shutouts over Oldenburg Academy and Jac-Cen-Del, Pitts cruised through the first 3 innings, allowing only a first inning single by Hunter Crain.

Rising Sun added a run in the top of the 5th before the rain returned.  Tyrrah Miller led the inning off with a single and stole 2nd.  A single by Polling moved to Miller to 3rd who then scored on a sac fly by Wallace to make it 4-0 Shiners.  With Lucy Phelps at the plate, the heavens opened up, making the field slick and dangerous as the umpires ordered the teams off the field.

After a conference with the umpires and officials from both teams, it was decided to try to dry the field and resume the game.  Administrators, coaches, and parent volunteers from Rising Sun went to work on the field with the hope of resuming the game at 10:00.  They beat that by 40 minutes as the game resumed at 9:21 after an 81 minute rain delay.
