Switzerland County took advantage of some early miscues by Milan to score 4 runs in the first 2 innings.  In the bottom of the first, Jessie Duvall was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.  Sister Maddie Duvall followed and hit a dribbler in front of the plate.  The throw to first base sailed down the right field line as Jessie raced around with the game’s first run.  Maddie would score later in the inning when Allie Bruce reached on an Indian error.

In the bottom of the 2nd, the Pacers plated 2 more runs, benefitted by a Milan error.  Lexi Lay singled with one out.  With 2 outs, Maddie Duvall reached on a Milan error reaching 2nd on the play as Lay went to 3rd.  Lily Sparks made the Indians pay for the miscue as she double to the gap in right center to score Lay and Duvall to make it 4-0 Pacers.

Milan got on the board in the top of the 4th when Taryn Cline led the inning off with a solo home run to left to make it 4-1 in favor of the hosts from Vevay.

Milan added 2 more runs in the top of the 5th, aided by a Switzerland County error.  Hailey Smith was hit by a pitch leading off the inning.  She stole 2nd to get into scoring position.  Pacer starter Sparks recorded back to back strikeouts for the first 2 outs of the inning.  Milan lead off batter Courtney Bruns stepped up and hit a grounder to the left side.  It went under the Pacer’s gloves for an error as Smith scored.  Bruns scored when Cassie Franklin followed with an rbi double as the Indians cut their deficit to a single run at 4-3.

After a rough start, Milan starter Erin Widener settled in and kept the Pacers bats quiet.  She allowed single base runners in the 3rd through 5th innings before getting a 1-2-3 sixth.  Meanwhile, the Pacers Lily Sparks was throwing a great game.   She struck out 10 batters through the first 5 innings and got some help from her defense in the 6th.  Widener led the inning off with a single.  A courtesy runner for Widener tried to steal 2nd but was gunned down by Pacer catcher Madesyn Byrd.  Sparks then struck out the next 2 to keep the Pacers in front by a run.
