Varsity Softball at Rising Sun- Monday, May 13

Rising Sun 5, South Ripley 1 (ORVC game)

  • SR  0  0  0  1  0  0  0 – 1R 6H 1E
  • RS  1  0  0  0  4  0  X – 5R 10H 2E

Rising Sun’s Bryce Kendrick:

Sydney Pitts threw a complete game and struck out 8 batters, scattered 6 hits and allowed 1 unearned run on an overthrow.  She hit a key 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.  Pitts also singled and stole a base.

Sydney Bostic and Abby Wallace both singled twice.  Bostic also drove in a run.

Wallace and Shelby Stogsdill both recorded an assist from the outfield.  Wallace doubled up a runner at first while Stogsdill threw out a runner trying to advance to third.  Lindsay Montgomery had 5 assists at third base and also tripled.

The victory improves Rising Sun’s ORVC record to 10-0 and guarantees the Lady Shiners at least a tie for the conference title.  A win Tuesday against Southwestern would mean an outright championship.

South Ripley’s Rob Lafary:

  • Mady Tompkins- 3 for 3; (pitching) L, 6 IP, 5 Runs, 4 ER, 11 Hits, 10 K, 3 BB
  • Ellie Waldron- 2 for 3 w/RBI
  • Maddie Hamrick- 1 for 3

I don’t believe in moral losses or accept losing, but I’m so proud of the effort and play of our girls. We gave the third-ranked team in 1A a run for their money all night and had a 1-1 tie heading into the bottom of the fifth. We had only one error. Unlike our other losses, we didn’t beat ourselves. We made a great team beat us. We showed just how good we can be and the potential our young group has.

We thank Rob Lafary for his game information.
