East Central 14, Rushville 6

Varsity Softball – East Central at Rushville

Friday, May 10

East Central 14, Rushville 6

The following is an unedited report from Rushville coach Amanda Norris: On Friday evening the Lady Lions hosted East Central. The Lady Lions kept it close through four innings with a score of 4-8 but were unable to close the gap as the Lady Lions fell 6-14 to the top-ranked team in the conference. Kara Chandler takes the loss on the mound allowing 14 runs on 15 hits with 4 strikeouts. Chandler also led the Lady Lions offensive attack going 3 for 4 in the contest. Jama Barnes went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Abby Herbert also went 2 for 4.

The Lady Lions turned around and hosted South Dearborn for a doubleheader on Saturday. With a slow start in the box, the Lady Lions fell in game one by a score of 2-8. Jama Barnes went 2 for 3, the only Lady Lion to tally more than one hit. Kendra Hamilton hit her 7th dinger of the season and Olivia Vance hit her 3rd. Olivia Mohler took the loss in the circle allowing 8 runs on 12 hits while striking out 2.

Game two of the doubleheader had Kara Chandler pitching. The Lady Lions got off to an early start with a 3-0 lead in the first that held until South Dearborn tied it up in the 4th. South Dearborn took a 1 run lead in the 6th, but the Lady Lions battled back to go up 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th. South Dearborn loaded the bases with 1 out and the Lady Lions just couldn’t hold on. The final score of the contest was 5-6. Jama Barnes led the offense again by going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Eight of the nine Lady Lion batters tallied a hit in the game.

The losses wrap up a great week of softball that put the Lady Lions toward the middle of the EIAC pack with a season record of 6-13 and 5-8 in the EIAC.

East Central information will be added when received.

We thank coach Norris for the report.
