Rising Sun got the game started being aggressive at the plate and on the base paths. In their opening half of the first inning, the Lady Shiners rallied with two outs to score. After a good at-bat for Lindsay Montgomery to work a walk, Sydney Bostic ripped her first double of the game to score Montgomery who stole second to get into scoring position. Milan was able to respond and tie in their half of the inning with the help of some fielding errors by the Lady Shiners. With two outs, Katelyn Tuttle’s hit was bobbled and allowed Tarnyn Cline to come in and score. A solid play by Emma Levi to Cora Poling to Sydney Bostic stopped Milan’s momentum as Erin Widener was thrown out at the plate in a close call.

In the second, Rising Sun leadoff hitter, Poling, got on base via an error. Once Lucy Phelps connected for a single, Poling was now at third to set up the second run for the Lady Shiners. Levi took an 0-2 count and hit a ball deep enough to allow Poling to tag and score. In the bottom of the second, Sydney Pitts had a pitching gem as she used 5 pitches to force three ground-outs and keep the 2-1 lead in favor of the visitors.

The third inning saw a common theme from the first for Rising Sun, scoring with two outs. A lead-off double from Kassidy Romans looked promising but Milan’s Cline made a solid play on a hard hit by Montgomery to get a double play. Bostic connected for her second double and Tyrrah Miller knocked in courtesy runner Hannah Warr. Cora Poling connected for a single and Abby Wallace placed another single to score two more and give Rising Sun a 5-1 lead. Milan started a threat in the bottom of the third when Courtney Bruns reached on a walk. Bruns attempted to get into scoring position but a solid throw from knees from Sydney Bostic cut down Bruns and the second out of the inning. Abby Ferreira had a double after the out and two batters later Sydney Pitts got a ground out to end the inning unscathed.

A scoreless fourth inning set up an explosive fifth inning as the Lady Shiners sent 13 batters to the plate who scored 9 runs on 5 hits. Tyrrah Miller led off with a single, Poling walked and Phelps reached on an error. Levi and Pitts each reached on walks to start the scoring. After a Milan pitching change, Romans knocked a single followed by another single from Montgomery and an RBI walk for Bostic. Poling added a single in her second plate appearance in the inning while Wallace ended the scoring with a two-RBI double. Going into the bottom half of the inning, Rising Sun was on top, 14-1. After retiring the first two hitters, Abby Ferreira worked a full-count walk to keep the game alive for the host team. Cline rocketed a home run on the next pitch but Pitts closed the game when she got Erin Widener to ground out and secure the conference road win.
