Unedited match comments from Shawe Memorial coach Natalie Hill:

“We are proud of our girls, but it is a tough team loss tonight as we have been pretty strong in the past, winning the last three sectionals here in Greensburg.  We knew we had a bit of an uphill battle this year, but we did do better overall as a team towards the end of the season.  We are so happy for Abigail and Phoebe tonight as they both gutted out great three-set wins.  Both of the girls came back after losing their first sets and fought back with overall better and more consistent play than their opponent.  Phoebe came back from being down in the 3rd set to pull out her win with her relentless play.  Abigail played some really great tennis tonight and her hard work has paid off.  She was down 1 to 5 in the first set on Thursday and then the rain came.  Today, she came out and played like the player we know she can be.  She moved well and hit her shots with good pace. Jessica was up in the first set but then didn’t play as consistent and couldn’t pull out the win, but she has stepped up and been willing to play at that #3 singles slot for us.  Our doubles teams were outplayed tonight and I know they are disappointed, but next year is a new year.  We have told the girls that they need to continue hitting balls in the offseason to really step up their game.”

Abigail will get to advance to the singles division of the regionals at Bloomington North next week.  She will play on Tuesday and/or Wednesday depending on the draw.  “We are so excited for Abigail to get to compete at the next level.  It will only help her game to continue playing tougher competition and she is excited to be able to do this.”
