Girls Soccer Recaps from Saturday, September 11

There may be updates, so please check back.

(VAR) Batesville 2, Franklin County 1 (home)
BA 1-0 at half

Batesville scoring from coach Katie Hartman:  Elena Kuisel and Tristan Rowlett scored for the Bulldogs.

Edited Franklin County recap from coach Cindy Adams: The Lady Wildcats played a strong game against the Bulldogs but came up one goal short losing 2-1. The Wildcats held the Bulldogs to just 13 shots on goal compared to 31 when our seniors were freshmen. The improvement this year has been remarkable.

Maegan Pearson kept Franklin County in the game with 11 saves. This keeper has been one of the secret ingredients in the Wildcats’ higher caliber performances.

Another key ingredient is the speed and tenacity of the backline anchored by captain Maddie Merritt and captain Claudia Mauntel. Add the strength and power of Kaitlyn Brunemann and Dan Bulach plus the talented but rookie defenders Audrey Weaver and Mackenzie Brzezinksi, plus Paige Ashcraft, and you have a very effective backline.

Flanking the outsides were excellent and fast players Halee Barker, Kylee Bolser and Madesyn Sunderhaus who transitioned from defense to offense and helped to keep the Wildcats firing at a fast pace.

The offensive attack was the strongest seen in recent years against the Bulldogs. The leading attackers each with a good shot on goal were Jordan Nichols with two and one each from Kamryn Dozier, Bethany Melugin and Lillian Ralph.

The FC goal came half way through the second half as Nichols was double teamed and brought down in the box. She finished her penalty kick like an ace and, at the time, tied the game 1-1.

The frustration by Batesville was evident as Franklin County continued to press high. Late in the game, the Wildcats lost position on the backside of the goal on only the sixth corner kick of the game.

This was the best match against the Bulldogs in recent years and it will be exciting to see the Lady Cats in action this next week in a few must win matches.

Our Player of the Match goes to Junior Maddie Merritt due to her brilliant 1-v-1 defending.

More recaps follow.
