Girls Soccer Recaps from Wednesday, September 8

There may be updates, so please check back.

(VAR) Franklin County 1 (home), Milan 1
Tied 1-1 at half

Edited Franklin County recap from coach Cindy Adams: The Lady Wildcats were not able to rally and defeat Milan.  The match ended in a 1-1 time.

Despite the fatigue from a grueling game the night before, the Wildcats managed to put 11 good shots on goal with only one finding the back of the net.  Freshman Madesyn “Power” Sunderhuas scored on an assist by senior offensive leader Jordan Nichols.

Sunderhaus was named our Player of the Match. Nichols was fun to watch and had several narrow misses. She was a threat drawing two defenders the entire match.

Other offensive shots were from Nichols with six, Bethany Melugin and Kamryn Dozier both with three then one each from Katelyn Brunemann, Lily Knapp and Kylee Bolser. Erica Weaver took five corner kicks for the Cats followed by Bolser with three.

Midfielders Weaver, Melugin and Morgan Stewart had good field vision and make some good opportunities for the Wildcats to attack.

Maddie Merritt had 16 throw-ins followed by Audrey Weaver with 10. The outside lanes were there, but we could not capitalize on that space.

Meagan Pearson picked up 6 saves. The defensive back line played a solid game with freshman Mackenzie Brezinski stepping into the sweeper role and making some big plays to defend the fast breaks.

Paige Ashcraft, Lillian Ralph, Bolser and Lily Knapp were quite effective subbing in and bringing some good energy to the pitch.

We thank everyone who contribued to the recaps.
