Girls Soccer Recaps from Thursday, September 2

There may be updates, so please check back.

(VAR) Southwestern 3, South Ripley 1 (home)
SW 3-1 at half

Edited Southwestern recap from coach Nancy Totten: We were at South Ripley who we always enjoy playing. Just 94 seconds into the match, Kearsty Cizek opened the scoring with a hard corner shot after Shelby Howard launched a ball over their defense on a free kick. Less than nine minutes into the game, Jessica Esquivel made a quick move and scored after receiving a nice pass from Cadence Humes.

For South Ripley, Mariah Brison scored with 17 minutes to go in the first half.  Then Lanie Anderson sent a nice ball to Kearsty Cizek who closed out the scoring with less than a minute to go in the half.

Brianna Johnson did a great job in goal for us. The second half saw no scoring from either team. I am proud of the girls. They played great as a team, implemented many things we had been working on, and played with heart.

(VAR) Oldenburg 1 (home), Centerville 0
Tied 0-0 at half

Edited recap from WRBI’s Terrance Arney: The Oldenburg Lady Twisters were victorious defeating the Centerville Lady Bulldogs 1-nil at The Graveyard. Neither team gained an advantage during the first 40 minutes of play as the score was 0-0 at halftime.

The lone score of the match came at the 37:12 minute mark of the second half when the Twister’s Emma Weberding delivered a strike to the left corner off the net from just outside the 18-yard box.

The win extended the Twisters win streak to three in a row and was their third win of the season.

(VAR) East Central 9, Connersville 0 (home)
EC 7-0 at half

Edited East Central recap from Michael Tiemann: The Lady Trojans traveled to Connersville for an EIAC match.

The Trojans struck in the first minute when junior midfielder Julia Tiemann scored off a ball from junior Erika Wells. About a minute later, sophomore forward Olivia Hopper increased the lead to two. Freshman Ellie Hill had the assist. It was Hill with the third goal, as she placed a header into the net off a crossed ball from junior Caitlin Dick.

In the sixth minute of the contest, Hill scored again to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead. Wells was credited with the assist. Goal No. 5 was delivered by senior forward Maggie McCord and assisted by freshman Anna Black. Sophomore forward Josie Fritz provided the sixth goal when she scored in the 21st minute. Then 10 minutes later, Tiemann scored again with an assist from Wells, increasing the lead to 7-0.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, senior defender Sophie Browndyke added to the Trojans lead by scoring on a through ball from Hopper. Three minutes later, junior defender Paige Makrancy scored the ninth and final goal unassisted. The game ended at 60 minutes under the mercy rule. East Central improves to 6-1-1 and 4-0 in the EIAC.
