(VAR) Batesville 3 (home), South Dearborn 3, (BA won in 5-3 PKs)
BA 2-0 at half

Edited Batesville recap from coach Katie Hartman: Batesville won in dramatic fashion on a rainy night against South Dearborn. In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs were up 2 goals from Elena Kuisel and Billie Puente. The Lady Knights came back to tie it 2-2 in the second half sending the match into overtime.

Kuisel scored in OT putting the Bulldogs ahead, but the Knights came back to tie it up 3-3 sending the match into penalty kicks.  All five shooters scored for Batesville to pull out the win. Lilly Wonnell was credited with 12 saves despite difficult and wet field conditions. The Bulldogs are now 5-1.

Edited South Dearborn recap from (boys) coach Jonathan Wismann:  The South Dearborn Lady Knights fought a valiant battle through the sometimes torrential downpours dumped by Hurricane Ida at Batesville. The Bulldogs started the game strong scoring two goals in the first half.

SD hit back hard in the second half scoring two goals in less than three minutes to equalize.  Sophomore Bernadette Wismann scored first from an outside shot set up by senior Mikayla Rudisell.  The second goal came off the foot of freshman Jenna Hufford on a free kick at the top of the eighteen. The score remained 2-2 at the final whistle sending the game into overtime.

The rain flooded the field and the fans sat through a river of water as the ladies took the field for the first seven-minute half of OT. The Bulldogs scored quickly in the just over a minute, but senior Bailey Eaves answered with a shot in the back of the net with only a minute left. The second half of OT left both teams scoreless and sent the drenched players on to a shoot out!

Junior Brook Ward and freshmen Sophia Ferguson and Jenna Hufford successfully found the back of the net but it was not enough for the win as sophomore Bernadette Wismann’s shot hit off the crossbar and Batesville won the game 4-3.

Freshman keeper Taytum Barker had 14 saves and was protected by seniors Ryllyn Heffelfinger, Quinn Heizer, Isabelle Daily, junior Brooke Ward, and freshman Sophia Ferguson. Seniors Bentley Hinkle, Mikayla Rudisell, Bailey Eaves, sophomores Bernadette Wismann, Abby Lane, Natalie Cantrell, and freshmen Jenna Hufford and Madalynn Phillips battled up top keeping the Bulldogs’ defense on their toes all night.
