Girls Soccer Sectional Round 1 Recaps from Tuesday, October 6

2A-27 at Batesville- Greensburg 7, Beech Grove 2

Pirates led 2-1 at half.

Edited report from Greensburg coach Ryan Morlan:  Greensburg brought home the win after a hard-fought match.  No points were on the board until 18 minutes left in the first half. Beech Grove scoured first but the Pirates’ Macey Smith, with the help of her team, answered back with her first two goals of the night. Greensburg led 2-1 at the half.

The Pirates allowed only one more goal by the Hornets while Smith scored twice more to get her hat trick and more.  Emily Rosales, Mykenzi Morlan and Hilary Erstes scored as well.  For Morlan and Erstes, it was their first goal each of the season.

The passing, starting with the defensive line, made the Pirates points possible.Emily Million, Scotlyn Reinhold, Katie Beam and Ernstes kept the ball on Greensburg’s offensive side.

The win advanced Greensburg to Thursday’s semifinals against Shortridge.

2A-27 at Batesville- Batesville 8, Herron 1

Bulldogs led 5-0 at half.

Edited report from Batesville coach Caleb Sucietto: Elena Kuisel started off the night scoring off an assist from Tristan Rowlett.  Rowlett then scored herself off a cross from Jadyn Harrington. Alma Davalos scored our third goal with 12 minutes left to play in the first half. Sydney Slavin scored from a beautiful team goal assisted by Davalos then Kuisel scored her second goal with 18 seconds to play in the first half.

With only 7 minutes gone in the second half, Lauren Gutzwiller scored on a left-footed volley off a cross from Davalos. Next, Haley Lipps scored off an assist from freshman Isabelle Hornberger.  Herron scored it’s only goal with 6 minutes to play in the game, right before Lilly Meyer went on a brilliant run to score her first career goal for Batesville. The final score ended up 8-1.

Olive Cerniglia tended goal with 4 saves before Lilly Wonnel came in and recorded 2 saves herself.  Batesville advanced to play Cathedral on Thursday.

3A-12 at East Central- East Central 5, Greenfield-Central 0

Trojans led 1-0 at half.

Edited report from East Central coach Bill Volker provided by MIchael Tiemann: East Central faced Greenfield Central in the first round of sectional play Tuesday at East Central. The Trojans struck in the 9th minute when Erika Wells scored after beating two defenders to a long ball played by Lexi Watkins. The goal was the only score in the first half.

Ten minutes into the second half, Caitlyn Dick found the net from another Watkins ball, giving the Trojans a 2-0 lead. In the 66th minute, Julia Tiemann scored with a shot from the 18 on a ball that had been bouncing around in the box before kicking out to her, advancing the lead to 3-0.  Four minutes later, Sophie Browndyke added to the lead when she dribbled through several Cougars and took a long shot. With three minutes left to play, Tiemann converted a penalty kick to bring the score to 5-0.

East Central advanced to Thursday’s semifinals against Mt. Vernon (Fortville).
