Girls Varsity Soccer, 2A Sectional 27 Championship at Greensburg- Saturday, October 12

Batesville 11, Greensburg 0

BA  7  4 – 11
GB 0  0 – 0

This was Batesville’s fifth girls soccer sectional title and first since 2017.

Batesville scoring stats:

  • Goals- Abbey Prickel 3, Liz Heidlage 2, Ellie Cassidy 2, Bella Britch 2, Carlie Werner, Betsy Reidy
  • Assists- Ellie Cassidy 2, Liz Heidlage 2, Carlie Werner, Lauren Gutzwiller, Olivia Knueven, Allie Savage

Batesville coach Kyle Laker: The Lady Bulldogs are sectional champions!  Batesville spread the scoring out among six different players.  Abbey Prickel got the scoring started in the 11th minute off an assist from Ellie Cassidy. Liz Heidlage scored twice in a two-minute span. The first was unassisted as she stole the ball from a Lady Pirate defender and ripped the shot into the top net. The second was assisted by Carlie Werner as she dribbled along the end line and dropped the ball to Heidlage for the score.

Werner then got in the scoring column herself as Lauren Gutzwiller crossed the ball in from the left flank and Werner was there to finish it.  Prickel scored two more in the first half off assists from Cassidy and Heidlage to finish off her hat trick.  Cassidy scored the seventh and final goal of the half on a nice far post finish after getting setup nicely by Heidlage. The Batesville defense gave up only one shot in the first 40 minutes.

In the second half, Cassidy notched her second goal of the match just five minutes in on an assist by Olivia Knueven. Betsy Reidy added the ninth goal of the game on a beautiful shot from distance that went up and over the goalkeeper into the side net. Bella Britch added two more for the Lady Bulldogs to round out the scoring. Allie Savage hit the crossbar on a shot from distance and Britch was there to finish.

Greensburg coach Ryan Morlan: The Lady Pirates managed to keep the score at zero for almost 12 minutes which was better than the regular season meeting where the Bulldogs scored in the first minute. Keeper Ella Lowe saw 34 shots and was able to win all but 11 of those challenges.

The Pirates managed to take only four shots on goal and they came in the second half.  Shots taken by Alaina Nobbe, Hilary Ernstes, Emily Rosales and Mykenzin Morlan could not find the back of the goal.

Thank you to all the parents and fans who came out and supported us throughout the season. You all have amazing young ladies and it was my privilege to spend the last several months preparing and competing in a sport they all enjoy.
