Richmond Sectional- Wildcats’ Graf wins in playoff, Franklin Co. 2nd advances

Girls Richmond Golf Sectional at Elks Country Club- Saturday, September 21

Top 3 teams qualify for Regional (places/scores): Richmond 1/366, Franklin County 2/375 and Hagerstown 3/383

Other local team results: Connersville 4/424

Individual sectional champion: Franklin County’s Gracie Graf, 89, won in a 2-hole playoff.  Teammate Maggie Brack and Zoe Brock of Richmond also shot 89.

Local individuals advancing to regional from a non-qualifying team:  Connersville’s Baylee Schneider, 97.

Local individual scoring:

Connersville- Baylee Schneider 97, Alexa Weber 101, Lydia Powell 104, Kaylynn Mohr 107 and Kelli Caldwell 118

Franklin County- Gracie Graf 89, Maggie Brack 89, Camryn Brewer 98, Taylor McCreary 99 and Ashlan Hill 100

Franklin County coach Marisa Mears: The Lady Wildcats traveled to Richmond to participate in their sectional tournament at the Elks CC. They shot a 375 and walked away with a second place finish.

There was a 3-way tie for medallist, which included Franklin County senior Maggie Brack and junior Gracie Graf.  IHSAA rules state there must be a playoff to determine the overall individual medallist. After a 2-hole playoff, Graf won the title of sectional medallist.

We went into sectionals with the intentions of winning. It makes a huge difference when a team gets to play on their home course year after year, but we gave it a good shot and still walked away with a ticket to regionals. I’m proud to have two of my players tie for first place.  We will play next weekend in the Lapel Regional and my hopes are just to have everyone play well on the same day and see if we can post a low round.”

The Lapel Regional will be held Saturday, September 28 at the Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.

We thank the IHSAA for the sectional results and coach Mears for her report.
