(MG-Sun) Switz 7th gets going in 4th to beat Southwestern

Hanover-  Last week, Switzerland County’s seventh grade girls had a hard time making shots but made enough in a 19-16 win at Southwestern.

The Pacers went scoreless in a 5-0 first quarter but were down by three at halftime, 10-7.  Hailey Gerster scored four points in the second period for Switz.

The Rebels edged the visitors 4-2 in the third stanza.  Switzerland County managed just two free throws as it now trailed 14-9.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Pacers as they outscored the Rebels 10-2.  Sierra Hamilton and Lexi Lay each scored five points over the final minutes. A strong defensive effort held Southwestern in check and Switz pulled off the 19-16 comeback win.

Switzerland County scoring: Lexi Lay 7, Sierra Hamilton 5, Hailey Gerster 4, Calleigh Powell 2, Ariel Oeffinger 1.

Pacer coach Cory Lay also noted Riley Hankins came up with some big rebounds and Calleigh Powell played a great game defensively.

Southwestern information will be added when received.
