(webcast) Lawrenceburg 63, South Dearborn 24- Rivertown Round 1

Aurora-  Four-time defending girls’ Rivertown Classic champion Lawrenceburg defeated tournament host South Dearborn 63-24 during Wednesday’s opening round.

This game was part of our St. Elizabeth Dearborn Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

It was far from a clean game for coach Zane White’s Lady Tigers (9-5) who committed 26 turnovers.  However, the Knights were unable to convert any of those miscues into points.  Conversely, LHS forced South Dearborn (0-13) into 42 turnovers and scored 32 points off them. Also, the TO differential of 16 coupled with a Lawrenceburg offensive rebounding advantage of 16 helped lead to 33 additional shot attempts for the champs.

Coach Darryl Gibbs’ Knights did have some bright spots.  Defensively, SD held its own.  Bernadette Wismann had six steals while Zoe Ross had multiple blocks and deflections in the lane.  The Knights simply struggled to get into any offensive rhythm and had very few second chance opportunities.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were Lawrenceburg’s Katie Johnson and Chloe Meyer.  Johnson had 10 points, eight steals, three rebounds and three assists.  Meyer recorded nine points, nine boards, three dishes and three swipes.

Also for the Burg, Kierah Lowe tallied 11 points, eight caroms and three blocks while Kirsten Cross carded 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

On the South Dearborn side of the ledger, Bernadette Wismann led the Knights with eight points and a half-dozen steals.  Emily Ellliott racked up a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in two points.  Zoe Ross logged four points, four boards and three takeaways.  She also had her fair share of inside disruptions on the defensive end.
