So. Dearborn 39, Franklin Co. 37 OT; 3A-29 Round 1 (SEILS Webcast)

Aurora-  After falling to Franklin County twice during the regular season, South Dearborn got a third crack at the Wildcats during Wednesday’s 3A-29 sectional in round one.  The host Lady Knights proved the third time can, indeed, be the charm as SD edged the Lady Wildcats in overtime, 39-37.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

Coach Joe Adams’ Wildcats trailed by two, 8-6, at the end of the first quarter but held a 13-12 lead at the half.  The Knights went up five early in the third only to see Franklin County come back to grab a 25-24 advantage at the stop.

But coach Doug Robertson’s SD crew, again, got a jump to start a quarter, this time in the fourth, to move ahead 29-25.  And while Franklin County’s Jenna Bruns hit a baseline jumper at the end of regulation to tie the game at 33, the Knights got the job done in the extra session to win 39-37.  It was South Dearborn’s first girls’ sectional game win since 2003.

In the overtime, Bry LaGreca’s two free throws with 4.8 seconds were the difference makers as the Cats’ Taylor McCreary hit a triple at the buzzer to cut the final spread to just two points, 39-37.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were South Dearborn’s Elsa Meek and Kyrstin Bond who both posted 13 points in the win.  Bond also had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals while Meek collected four boards.

Franklin County got nine points each from Jenna Bruns and Kairee Hodapp. Hodapp also recorded a game-high 11 rebounds and also had three steals.
