So. Dearborn 49, Rising Sun 45; River Town Consolation (SEILS Webcast)

Aurora-  Friday’s final night of girls’ competition in the 20th Annual River Town Classic at South Dearborn saw the host Lady Knights come from eight points down in the third quarter to edge Rising Sun 49-45.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again by clicking here.

The first quarter started with coach Doug Robertson’s Knights scoring the first six points, but coach Abby Friend’s Shiners trailed only 8-7 at the stop.  Kyrstin Bond of SD and Kieran Groover of RS both had four points.

Rising Sun took an early lead in the second period and, while they gave it back briefly, went on to post a 24-19 advantage at halftime.  The Shiners got most of their 17 quarter points from Baylee Morris (6), Maddi Wilson (5) and Groover 4.  Elsa Meek recorded seven of the 11 for the Knights.

Rising Sun’s biggest lead came in the third quarter, 30-22, but couldn’t hold it.  South Dearborn tied the score at 34 with a quarter to go.  Bentley Hinkle’s five points helped lead the SD comeback.  Wilson scored five as well for the Sun.

In the closing quarter, the lead changed hands five times.  The last, 42-41, came on a three-point Bond bucket.  It was the beginning of a 10-5 favorable stretch for the hosts to secure the competitive match and win by four, 49-45.

One team stat which stood out was free throw shooting. Rising Sun had its chances from the line but only made 11 of 22.  South Dearborn hit 13 of 14 (Bond 6/6, Meek 4/4, Ross 2/2).

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game was South Dearborn’s Kyrstin Bond.  She finished with a game-high 20 points with nine coming in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line.  She also had game-bests with six assists and four steals while co-leading her team in rebounding with seven.

For a second time this season, Bond reached 1000 points.  How? The first time was for her four-year career.  The second time came Friday where her 20 points gave her 1000 as a South Dearborn Lady Knight.  Bond played her freshman year at Greenfield-Central.

Teammate Elsa Meek scored 11.  Zoe Ross only had four points but tied Bond with seven boards and had a game-high three blocks.  She also logged three swipes.

For Rising Sun, Maddi Wilson led her team in scoring with 13 points.  Kieran Groover had another solid game with 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots.  Baylee Morris and Kinsey Price both booked 10 points.

Bond and Groover were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Lawrenceburg’s Juliana Kemper (MVP), Tristyn Dennis and Kierah Lowe plus Switzerland County’s Aleiah Thomas.
