Switzerland Co. 45, Rising Sun 34; Girls River Town Round 1 (SEILS Webcast)

Aurora-  Wednesday’s second, first-round girls’ game of the 20th Annual River Town Classic had the makings of being a blowout.  But while heavily favored Switzerland County did defeat rival Rising Sun 45-34, the Lady Shiners hung with the Lady Pacers.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

Coach Mark Boggs and Switzerland County return to the championship game of the RTC for the first time since 2017 thanks primarily to an outstanding second quarter.  The Pacers outscored the Sun 17-3 over the eight-minute stanza and led 29-12 at the half.

But Abby Friend’s Lady Shiners upped their game in the second half.  While the 22-point deficit at one point was too big of a hole to climb out of, they certainly gave it their best effort before falling by 11.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were Switzerland County’s Aleiah Thomas and Kierstan Oeffinger. Thomas posted a game-high 19 points and a team-best six rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals.  Oeffinger had a very fine night with 11 points, six steals, five assists and a rebound.

For Rising Sun, freshman Kieran Groover had a career-best 12 points and added five rebounds, one assist and one steal to her stat line.  Kinsey Price posted seven points, six boards, two swipes and a block. Sydney Pitts recorded a game-high eight caroms and chipped in four points while Wilson had a team-best four assists and scored six.

The Pacers will try to derail undefeated and three-time defending RTC champion Lawrenceburg in Friday’s title game.  Switz has won seven girls crowns.  The Burg has won four.  Rising Sun will take on South Dearborn in the consolation games which tips off first at 6 pm.

Please go see the River Town Classic in person, but if you can’t make it to Aurora, our coverage begins at 5:35 pm on Thursday and Friday then at 5:05 pm on Saturday.
