East Central 63, Batesville 41 (SEILS Webcast)

St. Leon- In a non-conference match-up Saturday, East Central defeated Batesville 63-41.  The teams will meet again at Batesville on January 17 for an EIAC contest.

East Central scored the game’s first nine points and led 24-9 after eight minutes.  Hope Fox scored 11 in the period for the Trojans, sinking a pair of triples, and also scored on a traditional 3-point play.  Katie Brewer recorded a pair of field goals to lead Batesville with four.

After scoring the final seven points of the first quarter, the Trojans also got a field goal to open the second stanza.  The East Central advantage reached 19 points before Batesville started to chip away at it. Ashley Nobbe dialed up a pair of long distance dedications, the first time the Bulldogs got back-to-back buckets in the opening half, to trim the deficit to 13.  The teams traded points for the rest of the half with East Central up at the break, 37-24.  

Nobbe’s six points led BHS in the second period while EC’s Josie Trabel netted six to top the Trojans.  

A field goal by Nobbe and a trifecta by Abby Westerfeld cut the Bulldog deficit into single digits, 37-29.  The Trojans’ Brilan McCory hit a pair of 3-pointers surrounding a field goal by Nobble to push the Trojan edge to 10, 43-33, headed to the final eight minutes.

Trabel, the Trojans’ leading scorer, had been held to just eight points through three quarters.  She came alive in the fourth with a personal 7-0 run early to give the hosts a 17-point lead.  Batesville got a pair of field goals before Trabel, again, scored the Trojans’ next seven points.   McCory helped close out the 62-41 victory, going 4 of 4 at the line in the closing minutes.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were East Central Josie Trabel and Brilan McCory.  Trabel led the Trojans with 22 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter.  She also contributed three rebounds, two blocks and a deflection.  McCory tallied 19 points and 10 assists for a double double while also stuffing her stat line with eight deflections, six steals, and two rebounds.

Fox gave the Trojans three double figures scorers, finishing with 13 points plus six assists, five deflections, three rebounds and a block.  Ashley Nobbe topped Batesville with 12 points and also logged four boards, two dishes, a swipe and three deflections.  Carlie Werner finished with nine points, two caroms, threee assists, a couple of steals and one deflection while Brewer scored eight points with a team-best seven rebounds and one takeaway.
