Osgood-  Batesville gave Class 1A-No. 2 Jac-Cen-Del quite a battle Friday in Osgood, but the Lady Eagles scored the game’s final nine points to win 52-48. It was the sixth straight Turkey Hangover victory for JCD over the Lady Bulldogs.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in 720p HD by clicking here.

Coach Bryan Helve’s Batesville bunch took an early 3-2 lead and held a 15-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  The Dogs’ Carlie Werner had a great opening stanza scoring eight points.  Werner and teammate Abby Westerfeld both hit a three pointer. Paige Ledford had six points at the start for the Eagles.

The two Ripley County clubs traded baskets for most of the second quarter which yielded seven lead changes.  At the half, it was Jac-Cen-Del which had the two-point edge, 29-27.

The Eagles buried four bombs in the period from the marksmanship of Ledford, Annabelle Williams, Aundrea Cullen and Kadee Kuhn.  Teammate Regan Carroll completed a traditional three-point play. Werner tied Williams for most points in the frame with five.  Werner also hit a three ball as did Westerfeld.

Batesville trailed for most of the third until it closed with the quarter’s final eight points to go up 38-35.  Ashley Nobbe scored seven of the Bulldogs’ 10 points which included an “and one.”  Ledford’s two buckets equated to four of the Eagles’ six points.

On the fourth lead change of the fourth quarter, BHS went up 48-45 thanks to a trifecta by Westerfeld (her third) and a two-plus-one for Nobbe.  But the Eagles closed out the contest with nine straight points.  It started with a trifecta by Kadee Kuhn.  Ledford’s inside deuce tied the score at 48.  A bucket by Williams put the hosts ahead by two, then Ledford added a pair of charity tosses to complete the late game surge and secure the 52-48 victory.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game was Jac-Cen-Del’s Paige Ledford.  The junior post player had a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 14 rebounds.  She also recorded three steals.

Batesville saw Ashley Nobbe and Carlie Werner put in 16 and 15 points respectively.

The Eagles survived an un-JCD like 23 turnovers by making up for it with a plus-10 effort on the glass.
