Girls Varsity Basketball at Lawrenceburg Sectional- Saturday, February 2

Greensburg 58, Rushville 54- 3A Semifinals

In Saturday’s first 3A Sectional 29 semifinal, Greensburg avenged an earlier season loss to Rushville and defeated the Lady Lions 58-54.

After establishing a 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, Rushville chipped away to get within 30-22 at half and 42-37 by the end of the third.   Greensburg was able to hold a final charge by the Lions in the fourth and win by four.

For the game, the Pirates made 20 of 24 free throws (83 percent).  The Lions also shot the free ball well but just didn’t have the volume making 10 of 14 (71 percent).

Greensburg was led in scoring by Melina Wilkison with 28 points while Aliyah Evans and Micha Morrison scored 15 and 11 respectively. All three players had a team-best five rebounds.  Morrison added 4 assists.

Annika Marlow and Taylor Browning both bagged 15 points for Rushville.  Browning added six rebound while Marlow also contributed four assists and three steals.  Allie Smith did not score but contributed seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

We thank Greensburg coach Jason Simpson, Rushville coach Melissa Marlow and our own Bill Smith for the game reports.
