A Thank You to Jac-Cen-Del and Waldron

To the Jac-Cen-Del and Waldron Girls Basketball Programs and to the Waldron administrators and staff:

Words can’t adequately describe the game my staff and I had the privilege to present on SEI Local Sports.  A story will be coming.  But first….

Jac-Cen-Del and Waldron made history- a 5 overtime thriller (understated) which became the longest game ever played in the IHSAA girls’ state tournament. The heart, hustle, grit and determination of young ladies and coaches on both teams, gave a full house of fans in attendance and the 3900-plus who watched live with us (on Livestream, our website and Facebook) a game they will never forget.

We thank Waldron AD Mark Shadiow and his staff for the accommodations and hospitality. It was our first time ever at Waldron and they couldn’t have been more gracious. We sincerely hope we get to work with you again.

To coaches Scott Smith and Anthony Thomas, kudos to the outstanding group of young ladies you have and thank you for sharing their talents with us.  And thanks to you both for your time and cooperation in helping us with our prep. It makes our presentation more informative and, at times, can even make it sound like we know what we are talking about (at times).

Life is a journey, and sometimes it can be downright fun and sometimes heartbreaking.  While one team was celebrating and one was in tears, it’s cliche to say but never more true in this case…there were no losers.  None!  Both teams gave everything they had.  Everyone was physically, mentally and emotionally spent after the equivalent of six-and-one-half quarters of basketball…52 minutes.

Time and time again, Waldron got up off the hardwood and made incredible plays to survive.  Time and time again, Jac-Cen-Del answered.  It was like two heavyweight fighters standing in the middle of the ring beating the life out of each other.  Ultimately, the Lady Eagles threw the last punch and added to the state’s longest active sectional championship winning streak of 11 straight titles and 24th overall.

From our sports family to yours, we thank you.
