South Ripley 55, Switz. Co. 29; Raiders win third straight 2A-45 title

Westport- Down 8-5 in the first quarter of Saturday’s 2A Sectional 45 Championship at South Decatur, South Ripley scored 20 of the game’s next 23 points to go up 25-11 on ORVC rival Switzerland County.  The Lady Raiders never let up and easily claimed the title with a 55-29 victory over the Lady Pacers.

It was the third consecutive girls’ basketball championship for coach Brian Samples and his Lady Raiders.  It was also the eighth overall for the program.

This game was seen live as part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in 720p HD by clicking here.

Coach Mark Boggs and company from Switz got first quarter buckets by Aleiah Thomas, Jessie Duvall and Rylee Hankins to hold a three point advantage.  But South Ripley ended the stanza with the final nine points to retake the lead 14-8.

That nine-point run was part of a much bigger 20-3 spurt extending into the middle of quarter two which really changed the game for good.  The Pacers did get within 10 by halftime, 29-19, but never again saw the point differential in single digits.

At the break, Jill Scott’s 10 points (six on 3-pointers) and eight from Morgan Peetz led the ladies from Versailles.  Aleiah Thomas totaled 11 points to headline the Vevay scorebook.  South Ripley outscored Switzerland County 11-3 at the line and also outrebounded the Pacers by 10 through the first 16 minutes.

The second half for South Ripley was even more dominating than the first as the Raiders had an 11-4 advantage in the third to increase its lead to 40-23.  A 15-6 fourth quarter capped a very strong championship night, 55-29.

Team Green was relentless on the glass. A 15-3 second half boards advantage brought the final carom spread to 34-12.  Over the final two periods, South Ripley hit 69 percent from the floor while it held Switz to 19 percent.  Both were key factors in what was eventually a 26-point victory for the Raiders.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Elexah Roepke and Morgan Peetz as our Whitewater Motor Company Players of the Game.  Roepke scored 12 points and had a great night rebounding and defending. Peetz had a team-high 14 points despite being shadowed defensively at times.  She also played well defensively.
