In their Tuesday sectional opener against South Decatur, the Lady Raiders started slowly, trailing 10-9 after one quarter and finished a sluggish first half down 22-20.  On Friday, the ladies from Versailles got off to a much quicker and more aggressive start, outscoring Southwestern 14-3 over the game’s first eight minutes.  Jill Scott was one of four Raider players to score, leading the way with five points.  The lone points for Southwestern came on a 3-ball from Trinity McLain.

South Ripley scored the first four points of the second quarter to complete a 14-0 run and post an 18-3 advantage.  Abby Ralston and Ashton Goode connected on back-to-back trifectas for Southwestern to bring the Rebels back within nine but the Raiders’ Elexah Roepke answered with an arc buster of her own.

Ripley was up 16 before Ralston had a personal 5-0 run to end the first half.  She completed an “and one” and also made 2 of 3 charity tosses after being fouled on a 3-point attempt.  At intermission, the Raiders led 27-16. Ralston’s eight points led all scorers at that point while Roepke and Jill Scott each scored seven for the Raiders.

In the team’s earlier meeting in Hanover,  Southwestern trailed by double digits in the second quarter before closing within six in the third.  During Friday’s semifinal, the Rebels did a similar thing.  Ralston was fouled on 3-point attempt to start the third quarter.  She sank 2 of 3 free throws then scored another field goal to pull Southwestern to within seven, 27-20.

But the Raiders outscored Southwestern 12-5 over the rest of the frame to build a 40-25 advantage heading into the final quarter.  Lindsey Meyer had five points in the quarter for Team Green while Ralston’s four paced the ladies from Jefferson County.  McLain also buried her second bomb of the game for the Rebs.
