South Dearborn 62, Switzerland Co. 44- Round 1 River Town Classic

Aurora-  The opening game of the 2019 Girls River Town Classic at South Dearborn saw the host Lady Knights avenge an early season loss to Switzerland County.  SD won 62-44.

This game was seen live as part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in 720p HD by clicking here.

On November 6, coach Mark Boggs’ Lady Pacers won by 10 inside of the Dragon’s Den, 46-36. On Wednesday, coach Doug Robertson’s Lady Knights scored the game’s first 10 points.  While Switz fought back to get within five points a few times in the half, South Dearborn’s defense was just too much.  SD produced 14 points off 13 Pacer miscues and also did an excellent job scoring in transition throughout the night.

South Dearborn led 19-13 in the first quarter.  The final time Switzerland County was within five points was 25-20 midway through the second.  It was 36-28 Knights at the half.

At intermission, SD’s Krystin Bond led the hosts with 11 and Alyssa McClanahan scored nine. Both players had three steals. Also for the Knights, Elsa Meek came off the bench to score six.  Meek was back after an extended absence from a broken hand injury.  Aleiah Thomas netted 12 points for the Swiss.  The Pacers’ Maddie Duvall sank a pair of threes for six points.

South Dearborn pushed its advantage into double figures during the third quarter and led 47-34 at the stop.  By game’s end, the Knights’ favorable spread peaked at 18 points, 62-44.  SD also welcomed the return of Brooke Huddleston who had been out since mid-November with a knee injury.  Huddleston’s nine points headed the SD scoring effort in the second half.

SEI Local Sports congratulates South Dearborn’s Alysaa McClanahan as our Whitewater Motor Company Player Of The Game.  The senior guard had a 16 points which included a 7 for 7 effort from the free throw line.  She also had four assists.
