Greensburg 57, South Ripley 41

Versailles- Any fans in attendance at South Ripley who may have been late coming back into the gym after halftime might have thought they went to a different game.  After scoring 22 points in the entire first half, Greensburg scored 20 in the first five minutes of the third quarter and went on to beat the Lady Raiders 57-41.

Greensburg led 9-5 at the end of the first quarter on the strength of seven points from Melina Wilkison.  The other Pirate points came on a field goal by Micah Morrison.  South Ripley got three in the quarter from Morgan Peetz and a field goal by Jill Scott.

South Ripley’s Elexah Roepke, the Raiders’ leading scorer, hit two free throws to open the second quarter.  Greensburg then proceeded to score the game’s next five points, the first on a 3-ball by Bailey Springmeyer and then a pair of free throws by Rose Morrison to double up the Raiders, 14-7.  South Ripley then went on an 11-0 run to take the lead for the first time.  Roepke ended the run with a traditional 3-point play, part of her nine points in the quarter.

Greensburg stopped the run with an arc buster from Aliyah Evans, one of three long balls in the period for the Pirates.  Micah Morrison later added a trifecta to give the Pirates the lead back, 22-20.  Two free throws by the Raiders’ Rachel Meyer closed the scoring in the half with the teams tied at 22.

Wilkison’s seven points led Greensburg in the first half while Roepke had a game-high nine in the half for South Ripley.

Evans scored the first four points of the second half for Greensburg.  South Ripley got a long ball from Lindsey Meyer to bring the Raiders within one.  Greensburg then went on a 12-1 run to open up a double digit lead for the first time.  They outscored South Ripley 24-8 in the quarter to lead by 16 with eight minutes to play.

Evans finished the quarter with 14 points for Greensburg while Wilkison put in six more for the Pirates.  Roepke and Lindsey Meyer both added three to the South Ripley total.
