South Dearborn 24, Batesville 17

BA  7  0  3  7
SD  0  8  8  8

Edited recap from Tom Snape: South Dearborn held off Batesville 24-17 at Backman Field near Aurora.

The Bulldogs drew first blood when quarterback Travis Lecher hit Bryson Bonelli with a 5-yard touchdown pass.  Batesville led 7-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Knights took the lead by halftime, 8-7, when Austin Ballart caught a 6-yard TD toss from Adam Kunkel. The successful 2-point conversion run by CJ Rogers followed.

Braiden Foster’s 37-yard field goal in the third put the Dogs back on top, 10-8. But South Dearborn took the lead for good when the Knights other quarterback, Logan Thies, connected with Reese Willoughby on a 33-yard scoring strike. Thies then hit Ballart for the 2-point conversion. That made it 16-10 SD.

Ryan Willoughby’s second interception of the game helped set up a Thies 1-yard scoring run and his 2-point conversion which followed.  It was now 24-10 Knights in the fourth.

But Batesville did not go away. Lecher threw his second TD pass when he found Trenton Roell for a short yardage score.

BHS had one additional chance to tie it up, but South Dearborn knocked down a Bulldog pass in the end zone to preserve the 24-17 victory.
