(webcast) 3A-16 Regional: Southridge 49, Lawrenceburg 28

Lawrenceburg- The No. 4 Southridge Raiders captured their third football regional championship in the last four years Saturday as they defeated the third-ranked Tigers at Lawrenceburg 49-28.

This game was part of our Bruns-Gutzwiller Fall Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

This was Southridge and coach Scott Buening’s first Class 3A regional crown after moving up from 2A in 2019.  The IHSAA’s success factor kicked in after the Raiders won the state title in 2017 and then claimed another regional victory in 2018.

The 2020 3A-16 match was pushed from Friday into Saturday because of the three-hour drive from Huntingburg to Lawrenceburg’s Dick Meador Stadium and was the last of 24 title games to finish on Regional Weekend.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game choice was an easy one.  Southridge cornerback, wingback and return man Camden Gasser had an outstanding night.  The senior had three defensive interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, six solo tackles, a kickoff return for a TD and 128 yards of offense, including a team-leading 112 receiving yards.

Honorable mention went to senior teammate Matt Springer who scored three touchdowns.  Springer was the team’s top rusher with 15 carries for 95 yards and two scores.  He also caught one pass for 28 yards which was good for six points as well.

Both Springer and Gasser along with senior quarterback Chase Taylor were, collectively, a Raider three-headed monster.  All three final-year players eclipsed the 1000-yard rushing mark this season and tallied 40 touchdowns on the ground between them   With the assistance of eight rushes from Parker Kippenbrock, another senior, the quartet teamed up for 228 rushing yards and four scores Saturday.  Springer had two TDs giving him a team-best 19.  Taylor and Kippenbrock rushed for one touchdown each.  Taylor was also 7 of 18 passing for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
