(webcast) 1A-47 Championship- North Decatur 6, Milan 0

Greensburg- For a seventh straight game and an eighth time overall this football season, North Decatur shut out its opponent.  Friday’s latest scoreless 6-0 gem over Milan resulted in the Chargers successful Sectional 47 title retention and fourth overall.

This game was part of our Bruns-Gutzwiller Fall Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

Only twice in 2020 has North Decatur allowed more than two touchdowns. Coincidentally, the Chargers lost both of those games.  The first was against state ranked Lapel in which the Bulldogs won 26-13.  The second was against Milan where the Indians won 25-7 and later went on to secure its fourth MIFC championship in five years.  However, Milan’s 25 points were a bit deceiving as 14 came on a pair of pick-6 interceptions from the Tribe’s defense.

ND’s scoring defensive average of 6-points a game entering Friday’s sectional finale was second best in all of Indiana High School Football.  After recording their eighth shutout on November 6, coach Steve Stirn’s Chargers can now boast having THE best scoring defense as the allowed average has dropped to 5.5.

That. Is. Impressive.

Lost in all the accolades of North Decatur’s defense was the effort coach Ryan Langferman’s boys from Milan gave Friday night at North’s Ed Kaelin Field. The Indians allowed only one Charger touchdown. One. Ninety-five times out of 100, that will win you a football game.  But not on this night.  Milan’s defense was very, very good.  North Decatur’s D was incredible.

Story continues.
