While Batesville converted a 4th-and-1 during its first possession of the night, the Bulldogs were forced to punt four plays later.  But on the punt, BHS fumbled and it was recovered by Greensburg’s Noah Schweinhart on the BHS 25.

Coach Scott Moore’s Pirates took full advantage of the outstanding field position and scored five plays later when Toby Brogan slipped through the trenches to the end zone from a yard out.  Brogan then scored on a two-point conversion with only his center in front of him and Corbin Mathews behind him.  It was 8-0 Bucs with 8:12 showing in the first quarter.

Batesville responded with an eight play, 76-yard drive and scored at the 5:29 mark of the opening stanza.  The scoring play was a 40-yard pass, all in the air from, from Travis Lecher to Trey Peters. A Braiden Foster PAT followed.

Greensburg marched down the field but the Batesville defense stiffened inside the red zone.  The Pirates went for and missed a 32-yard field goal.

But the Pirates were not without the ball for long thanks to their defense dialing up a three-and-out against the Dogs.  G’burg took over at the Batesville 42 and scored nine plays later when Oakley Best plunged in from two yards away.  Ben Bausback’s kick was good to make it a 15-7 Pirate lead with 8:29 left in the half.

A key play in the scoring drive was a 4th-and-6 conversion as Brogan connected with Mathews on a 20-yard pass which moved the ball to the four.

Coach Even Ulery’s Bulldogs once again answered the visitor’s score as the canines traversed 65 yards in five plays.  The big play was the 37-yard TD pass to a wide open Peters.  A Foster kick followed and it was now 15-14 Greensburg with 6:50 left before intermission.
