Batesville established a 21-0 advantage after two quarters of Friday’s 3A Sectional 31 round one matchup at Rushville.  The Bulldogs went on to beat the Lions 49-14.

BHS did its damage on the ground amassing 352 of its 380 total yards.  All seven touchdowns were rushes: three by Travis Lecher plus two each from Austin Pohlman and Jake Cruse.

Pohlman did most of the heavy lifting with 22 rushes for 156 yards.  Lecher had six carries for 91 and Cruse posted three lugs for 74.

Rushville booked 268 yards of offense.  Austin Vance threw for 93 yards on 10 of 14 passing with a TD to Anthony Meo.  Meo caught five passes in all for 38 yards.  Jake Vance had four receptions for 42 yards and rushed for 48 more on seven carries, but his biggest play was an 84-yard kickoff return to the house.

Defensively for the Dogs, Brayden Linkle had 23 tackle points on seven solo stops and nine assists.  JT Linkel (2 solos, 8 assists) and Ben Schebler (4 & 4) both had 12 tackle points.  JT also recovered a fumble. Jeremiah Lemmel tallied 10 (1 & 8).

For the Lions’ D, it was Hunter Applegate with 17 TPs on seven solos and three assists.  Josiah Hay had eight (1 & 6) while Dylan Galusah totaled seven (3 & 1).

“This is obviously not the way we wanted the season to end,” said Rushville coach Dan Rector.  “But I’m proud of the improvement we made over the season.  Personally, I’m honored to have been able to work with this group of seniors.  We all wish them well with the rest of their high school careers and beyond.”

The Bulldogs (4-6) will host Greensburg (6-4) in the 3A Sectional 31 semifinal on Friday, November 1. The Pirates held off Franklin County, 27-26, in round one.
