If you looked at the Sagarin Ratings prior to the Silver Creek at East Central 4A Sectional 23 first round football game Friday, you might have been surprised an undefeated Trojan team was better than a four-touchdown statistical favorite over a one-loss Dragon club.  But the Sagarin proved to be nearly on target as East Central soundly defeated Silver Creek 42-14.

The Trojans led 28-0 at the half as Jake Fike ran for two TDs of five and six yards while Ryan Bond threw for a pair of scores to Trevor Becker (25 yards) and Mac Studer (26 yards).

The second half became a running clock in the third quarter after Bond completed his third touchdown pass of the night, this one covering 10 yards to David Badescu.  That made it 35-nothing.  The hosts added one more score before the stop when Fike recorded his third TD run from seven yards out.

Silver Creek scored twice in the final frame as quarterback Ben Landers broke free for a 76-yard touchdown.  Then Heath Knight punched in for a TD from the 1-yard line.  That made the final score East Central 42, Silver Creek 14.

The Trojans outgained the Dragons 284-218 and had six more first downs (15-9).  SC turned the ball over four times compared to just two for EC.

Bond was very efficient throwing the rock completing 10 of 11 passes for 173 yards and three TDs.  His top receivers were Studer with three catches for 69 yards and Becker with two receptions for 58.  Both had a touchdown as did Badescu (2/24).   Fike’s team-leading rushing totals were 18 carries for 75 yards and three scores.

For Silver Creek, Landers rushed for 108 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown, but 76 of those yards came on one play in the fourth quarter.  Knight had 21 totes for 84 yards and the other Dragon TD.

Defensively, Kyle Krummen had 18 tackle points on eight solos and two assists.  Kole Viel matched that total with seven sol0s and four assists. He also had one sack.  Badescu picked off one pass.
