Cross Country Recaps for Saturday, August 21

Many teams competed but only a few area programs had enough to qualify as a team.  In the girls meet, Switzerland County was 6th and North Decatur was 16th.  In the boys meet, Southwestern finished 13th, Rising Sun came in 21st and North Decatur was 26th.

There were also individual runners from Milan and Oldenburg.  The top local finisher for the day was Milan’s Ben Riehle who placed 9th out of 240 runners in the boys race with a time of 17:56.  Please click the links above for all results.

Edited Switzerland County recap from coach Meganmarie Dennis- The girls placed 6th out of 18 teams. With many new runners making their high school CC debut, they were led by Freshman Amber Detmer in 12th place with a 22:47.  Following her were: Gracie White 27th-23:53, Carlee Boggs 38th-24:34, Alisha Detmer 57th-25:24, Avy Burkholder 75th-26:29, Ashlyn Covington 96th-27:57, Bri Stow 156th-34:53, Terra Oeffinger 166th-41:04 and Jessica Hollin 167-41:14.

The boys were led by junior Nathan Furnish 25th-18:49.  With many new runners, they look forward to placing as a team at the next meet.  Furnish was followed by:  Cooper Hon 100th-21:34, Derek Hoskins 142nd-22:48 and Dylan Sullivan 177th-24:07.

Richmond Invitational

East Central’s girls won Richmond’s Hare and Hounds Cross Country Invitational.  The Trojan boys came in fifth. The Lady Trojans had four runners in the top 10:  Rachel Campbell 2nd-21:02, Addie Brewer 5th-21:58, Faith Henderson 8th-22:34 and Emily Klem 9th-22:46.  Connersville’s Owen Barker also was a top 10 finisher in the boys meet finishing 7th in 18:24.

Edited Connersville recap from coach Glen Arndt- The Connersville cross country teams competed at the Richmond Invitational on the tough IU East course. Owen Baker led the Spartan boys with his 7th place finish. Austin Wenta was next across the line in 25th. He was followed by Jeremy Jergensen in 50th and Carson Giesting in 66th.

For the Lady Spartans, Abigail Struewing reaped the benefits of a great summer of training by running a 38 second personal best in her first race of the season, placing 14th overall. RayKya Dixon showed a lot of toughness in her first cross country race and finished 41st.

Edited Franklin County recap from Franklin County coach Stacey Nobbe- The Franklin County cross country teams were not able to qualify as complete teams at Richmond.  All Wildcats ran as individuals. For our girls, freshman Esther George was the top finisher in 37th place. She finished the 5K distance with a time of 26:52. Senior Katherine Apsley came in 46th.

For our boys, senior, Ben Maze just missed a top 20 finish has he crossed in 23rd with a time of 19:48. Senior Adam Grant finished 33rd with a time of 20:24. Junior Harmon Marshall started out strong but quickly faded in the second mile.
